When Steven Gerrard was first appointed Rangers manager back in May, he had a lot on his plate. The Ibrox club’s leaky defence was in need of a serious revamp after conceding 50 Premiership goals - the sixth-highest total in the league - the previous season, the playing squad needed overhauled and a tactical rethink was desperately required.
